Kelly Hollis took up competitive volleyball as a freshmen at Oldham County High School in 1998 where she received All-Region Team recognition. This is where her love of the game was fostered and led to her wanting to coach.
Kelly began coaching in 2012 when her two daughters were in elementary school. Because of them, she has coached players of every age. In 2016, Kelly was asked to take over as the volleyball program coordinator for St. Nicholas Academy. One of her favorite memories coaching her daughters through elementary school was seeing their growth from peewee to 8th grade, which ultimately led to their team winning the 7/8th grade CSAA City Championship in 2019. Kelly remained the volleyball program coordinator until 2023 when she became a part of the coaching staff for Louisville Male High School.
Kelly started coaching club volleyball in 2017 at Unity Volleyball club, where she led a regional 13s team to six gold medals her first year as a head coach. She continued coaching 14s through 16s until 2022 when she made the move to MAVA, coaching 17-Blue the past two seasons. This will be her first season at the helm of 17-Elite and she couldn’t be more excited. One of her favorite parts of coaching is getting to help facilitate confidence in young women through sport. Seeing a player make their first overhand serve or get their first big block and knowing you helped to get them there is incredibly rewarding!
Outside of volleyball, Kelly obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Louisville and is a corporate litigation paralegal for a large insurance company. She is married, with two daughters – one is a freshman at University of Minnesota on the NCEA Equestrian team and the other is a senior at Louisville Male High School and also plays volleyball at MAVA.
